It seems as though TSIS favorite Ta-Ku is always up to something. Although his never-ending escapades come as no surprise, as the Perth-based artist revealed to us last year that apart from producing, he uses photography, fashion, singing, running a barbershop and more as creative outlets. But today, the man of many talents has added yet another accolade to his long list of accomplishments, by announcing the launch of his brand new label, 823 Records.
Although Ta-ku had a relatively quiet 2017, he’s started off the new year with an incredible undertaking. While information regarding future releases and plans for the new label is relatively sparse at the moment, Ta-ku confirmed in an interview with Pigeons & Planes that 823 plans to release records featuring cover art and images shot by the artists themselves; something that Ta-ku says is more of an “art project” than what you’d expect from a traditional label release.
“823 is something I always used to tell my wife when we were dating and leading up to my marriage. It just stands for ‘Thinking of you.’ It’s kind of like a term of endearment to someone that you think about a lot. It’s been around for a while, similar to ‘143.’ I don’t know if you’ve heard of that terminology, but it’s the numerical representation of ‘I love you.’” - Ta-ku (via Pigeons & Planes)
823’s first release, “Innvervisions” featuring Mei Saraswati, comes from Kuzich (tour drummer/close friend of Ta-ku) and dropped yesterday with an accompanying video that can be seen below. Keep an eye out for more to come from 823 Records in the near future and check out their website here for more information on the label. Enjoy!
