It’s no secret that all eyes have been on Gorillaz in 2017. The group has dropped surprise after surprise amidst their massive Humanz album rollout, including an augmented reality app, plans for a TV series, a North American tour announcement and much more. Today the group has gifted us with yet another new track, “The Apprentice” feat. Rag’n’Bone Man, Zebra Katz and RAY BLK.
“The Apprentice” is a funky departure from the other tracks released so far off of the Humanz album. Ominous laughter coupled with a playful beat kicks the song off and hit two different sides of the spectrum setting the tone of the track. Rag’n’Bone Man’s soulful voice draws you in from his first note, followed by a smooth verse sung by RAY BLK. Zebra Katz jumps in with a rapped verse towards the end, bringing an unexpected but welcome aspect to the new song.
“The Apprentice” overall is a fusion of many different sounds from moody to lighthearted, and is something Gorillaz pull off excellently. Listen to the track below and enjoy!
